Valentine’s

The origin of Valentine’s Day dates back to ancient Rome.

In the 3rd century AD, Emperor Claudius II banned marriage for soldiers, believing that single men made better warriors. During this time, a priest named Valentine secretly performed marriage ceremonies.

When this was discovered, Valentine was arrested and sentenced to death. While in prison, he fell in love with the jailer’s daughter and, before his execution, wrote her a letter signed “From Your Valentine.”

After his death on February 14, the Church named the day after him as a symbol of love and devotion.
